Sixteen Candless 1984
Gedde Watanabe as Long Duk Dong
Her break out role in the coming of age John Hughes movie, also starring Anthony Michael Hall. Plays Samantha Baker whose"sweet sixteenth" birthday becomes anything but special . Molly won the Best Young Artist Award in 1985 for this film . Brother and sister John and Joan Cusack co-star in Sixteen Candles. Molly Ringwald almost lost the role of Samantha to Ally Sheedy Teen angst abounds in this classic comedy written and directed by John Hughes. Samantha Baker's (Molly Ringwald) 16th birthday should be perfect and memorable. Unfortunately, her whole family is preoccupied with her sister's impending wedding and completely forgets Samantha's big day. To add insult to injury, the school geek (Anthony Michael Hall) won't stop hitting on her, she has to bring a foreign exchange student (Gedde Watanabe) with her to the school dance, her visiting grandparents have taken over her bedroom, and she's sure that the boy of her dreams (Michael Schoeffling) doesn't know that she exists. Hughes's script captures the range of teenage emotions, from embarrassment to peer pressure to the pangs of puppy love, with humor and honesty. Hall is memorable as the Geek, and Schoeffling is perfect as the boy of Sam's dreams. A young John Cusack makes his second feature-film appearance as the geek's friend, Bryce, while sister Joan Cusack appears as Geek Girl #1. Ringwald's reign as the queen of 1980s teen flicks began with this film, which was Hughes's directorial debut and the first in his stream of successful teen films

The Breakfast Club 1985
Plays high school princess Claire Standish in this cult classic John Hughes film .Other proposed titles were "The Lunch Bunch" and "Library Revolution".Molly Ringwald wished to play Allison but Ally Sheedy had already been promised the role. When five high school students from different social groups are forced to spend a Saturday together in detention, they find themselves interacting with and understanding each other for the first time. A jock (Emilio Estevez), a criminal (Judd Nelson), a princess (Molly Ringwald), a basket case (Ally Sheedy), and a brain (Anthony Michael Hall) talk about everything from parental tension to sex to peer pressure to hurtful stereotypes while serving time. Ultimately, the five find that they may have more in common than they ever imagined and learn more about themselves as well as each other. The only question is, Will they remember what they've learned after they leave detention? Director and writer John Hughes, along with the stellar Brat Pack, cast makes this a memorable, moving film filled with believable dialogue, intelligent humor, and a sufficient dose of high school hijinx. Its timeless appeal makes this film a teen classic along with Hughes's other teen films from the 1980s A great soundtrack features the hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds.

Pretty in Pink 1986
Movie about teenage love and social cliques in 1980s . In one interview she considered it her favorite film and the on screen kiss with Andrew McCarthy her favorite screen kiss. Breakout movie for James Spader . Pretty but poor, Andie's (Molly Ringwald) a good student who develops a crush on Blane (Andrew McCarthy), the sensitive, well-born preppie. But Blane runs with a fast crowd of haughty rich kids, the kind of clique Andie and her new wavy best friend Duckie (Jon Cryer) can't stand. Going against her fretting father (Harry Dean Stanton), peer pressure and social expectations, she decides to date him. But their big plans for the senior prom ultimately fall apart when Blane heeds his friend Steff's (James Spader) warning to "quit slumming." Will Blane find the courage to claim what he really wants and give up the so-called friends he doesn't need? This classic 1980s teen film from the master of the genre, writer-producer John Hughes features plenty of great '80s pop tunes from the Psychedelic Furs, The Smiths, Echo and The Bunnymen, New Order, and more. The continued success of Hughes' films and actors ushered in the era of the "brat pack" and teen films as pop culture.

For Keeps 1988
Plays high school student Darcy who becomes pregnant in her last "teen" movie, and is cited as one of her best performances for the realistic portrayal of teenage parents. Original title considered: "Maybe Baby".In director John G. Avildsen's FOR KEEPS, Darcy (Molly Ringwald) is an aspiring journalist and a college-bound senior, eager to escape the confines of her small town and overbearing mother (Miriam Flynn). Together, with her high school sweetheart Stan (Randall Batinkoff), who is hoping for a scholarship to Cal Tech, they make the perfect senior couple destined for big things. They're on top of the world, in love, and preparing for an idyllic future. Of course, that's before Darcy realizes she's pregnant. Despite the disapproval of their families, Darcy and Stan decide to keep the baby and get married, starting their adulthood a little sooner than they planned. They struggle to finish school while working odd jobs and redecorating their less than comfortable rundown apartment. Of course they have no idea how hard it will be to make it on their own and soon enough the honeymoon is over--diapers are in and late night dates are out. Things just get harder for the young couple--they're forced to put their college dreams on hold and even move into Darcy's mother's house. The pressures of being new parents almost splits the young couple up until they realize how much they really do love one another. Together, they decide to buck the odds and enter college as a new family. This contemporary spin on the modern teen romance features a sweet, heartwarming script and a touching, realistic performance from Ringwald.
